Is it healthy that parents forbid their children to use smartphones at night?
Why is it important not to use smartphones at night? Because half of the teenagers wake up at night to check their notifications or post on social media. This habit will affect their sleep, increases the fatigue at school and harm their sense of well-being.
Teenagers should stay away from the social media during the night especially when they go to sleep. The disruption caused from using smartphones at night cannot be compensated through neither lengthening the time in bed nor sleeping on a regular time every night.
This routine can cause damage. Surveys have shown that more than half of the people who highly use the social media at night wake up feeling tired.
Feeling tired when attending classes highly affects the overall levels of subjective well-being of the teenagers.
In some cases, this results in mental health problems. The heavy usage of social media and poor sleep both affect the mental health of the teens when combined together which can be problematic.
How can we solve this issue?
Studies have shown that the best way to deal with this matter is to encourage teens to decrease the usage of technology at night. The best way is to keep any digital devices out of the bedroom so they won’t wake up every couple of hours to check their Smart phones.
Sleeping at a regular and reasonable time every night is beneficial for the teens’ health, but waking up to use social media will directly abolish the benefits.
