Desiring to be a successful employee requires being cautious not make the common mistakes, otherwise, be prepared to lose your job. The top mistake is arriving late to work on a constant basis, leave aside the other forbidden behaviors in the workplace. Be the employee who abides by the rules of the office and make sure not to be the annoying coworker.
For an easier way to be this special employee, avoid the following:
Avoid gossiping behind the back of your coworkers. Gossiping is simply a trigger for losing your job, regardless of where you work. Be a strong employee with a smart personality. You have your job for the purpose of working and being productive. You should not forget that. Reflect how professional you are and forget about anything else. If you want to talk about personal stuff with your colleague, try to postpone it for another time. It is true what Socrates said: “Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people.”
2. Low morale:
Low morals kill your productivity, affect your communication with your colleagues and increase your errors during work. Make sure you keep proper morals constantly. Avoid being the negative employee who is called a downer among all departments, and show passion for your work. Or else, no one will be interested in cooperating with you. Be careful! Managers try to find fastest way to fire a bad employee with low morale for he affects the whole ambience ant the workplace.
It’s a common thing to find a workplace with conflicts. People usually have different opinions and point of views which normally lead to misunderstandings. However, if you face such conflicts, make sure you act in the right and reasonable way, and try to diminish the negative effects that result from such conflicts. The most effective way to solve similar problems is to negotiate. Don’t accept being offended in any way. No matter where the conflicts lead, stay calm, keep up the privacy and do not involve the supervisor unless things went out of control.
4. Neglecting dress code
You’ll be very lucky if you go in regular clothes to work every day. However, most companies have a dress code for their employees during working hours. Therefore, you should be dressed formally and abide by the rules, just like everyone else. Do not wear daring clothes of course. It may have negative effect on your reputation in the office. Make sure you wear proper clothes, even if you had to repeat same clothes often.
5. “it’s not my job”
When the supervisor assigns a task to you that is not supposed to be listed among your duties, you have 2 choices; accept it, or simply say “it’s not my responsibility”. However, you must take the task if you are looking for a promotion. And if you think that it is not fair that you have to handle others’ responsibilities, simply refuse, but be aware that you’re not getting the previous promotion.
6. Avoiding team work
Learn how to work in cooperation with your colleagues in order to be considered as a successful employee. Make yourself an essential part of the team. This will allow you to make good relationships at work with your coworkers, as well as with higher authorities. When you do otherwise, or when you avoid bonding with colleagues during breaks, you will be no be seen as someone with team spirit.
7. Dirty Jokes
How can you survive a long day at work without allowing time for jokes and laughter? However, don’t involve dirty jokes and annoying ones. Don’t be this person who “over-mentions” flirtations and bothering phrases.
Nowadays, you have to be loyal for your office’s rules, and pay attention to your behaviors so you avoid conflicts and bad reputation.
