We all suffer from keeping high productivity levels at work. It is not that complicated. It does not require 24-hour trainings or months of reading and memorizing books for management. With experience, you will realize that it has been simpler than ever. Maintaining high productivity needs nothing but pre-planning.
The common mistake we all do is that we arrive rapidly to work, turn on our laptops, check emails and dive into completing all the tasks. We think that it is the most essential and productive way. However, this is the biggest mistake.
First 15 minutes
In fact, what we should do is take the first 15 minutes to organize all the tasks and carefully plan them in an effective way.
Here are several steps that can make your life a lot easier:
- As a first step, create a list to include all the assigned tasks for the day.
- Second, prioritize your tasks and choose the most important 3 ones. Most people do not resort to such thing.
- Then, make sure you differentiate between what is really important and what is “virtually” important. Separate them into two categories.
- Finally, set time for every task. Start with the priorities, move on to minor ones and then to the least urgent ones. Plan all this at the start of the day.
To do all this, it only takes 10 to 15 minutes of thinking and planning. Consequently, you will be saving much more time than any other day. You will be more productive, organized and well-aware of the things you want to do.
Pre-planning can be also used before going into a meeting, giving a presentation or preparing for a very important conversation. Your performance will improve with this process, for everything will be clear to see.
Speed and energy is not the missing piece of the puzzle. It is all about planning and organizing.
