When your performance at work is being reviewed, make sure you ask the following questions:
- “What was the thing I did good during this year?”
Several managers do not know how to show appreciation. When you are working for a similar boss, you will have to for positive feedback. In fact, it is important to know the things you’ve done that pleased your boss.
- “What should be changed for the coming year?”
This is a different and better way to ask about the things that did not go good the year before. This question is definitely helpful for know how your boss is thinking, especially if he/she is not of the type who likes giving critical feedbacks.
- “What should be done to change the rating in a particular field the coming year?”
When you are low-rated for some goals or tasks, you must know what you did wrong to get such results. Make sure you’re ok with some of the tips given about the things that need to be changed. Do not argue about previous issues or mistakes. Instead, listen well and understand the comments given by your boss.
- “How can I help other people on my team?”
When the tasks are done by group work, then all team members rely on each other. You may have good relationships with your co-workers; however, your boss might have other ideas to organize the team work. Moreover, when you ask this question, you will reflect your team spirit.
- “What are the main targets for the next year?”
Many employees have no clue about their boss’s targets. However, when you know his/her goals, you can be more participating in giving helpful assistance. In this way, you guarantee having a better rating for the next review.
- “How can I facilitate things for you?”
Don’t be surprised to see a shocked expression on your boss’s face when you ask such question. Many employees do not care to facilitate the manager’s job. They always expect their boss to be the one making their lives easier and not the other way round.
- “What changes or difficulties is our business facing in the future?”
You will have a bigger idea of your job and its impacts on the bigger image of the whole business. You will also be ready for new challenges. Moreover, your boss will realize that you are not limited to the tasks that are assigned to you on a daily basis.
- “How can I develop my skills?”
You must ask this question in order to receive answers for your own improvements. On the other hand, the answer to this question may help you change your set plan in case there are some changes that you were not expecting.
