The easiest way to motivate your team is by giving a raise for it is highly appreciated and desired, even though it is not always as effective as needed to be.
Successful managers apply many methods to motivate the employees. Money is powerful but you need to add something more to keep your team moving. Following are the three ways that do not include money:
1 Look for Something That Triggers Them on a Personal Level
Each employee has different needs, goals and ambitions in life. Not all expectations are the same. In order to know what motivates your team, you need to go through feedback sessions and private conversations. When you know what motivates each one of them only then you will be able to set effective plans.
Start with a simple question, “What motivates you at work?”
For example, some may be looking for new opportunities. Therefore, they will find motivation when working on a special project that helps them grow.
2 Have a Casual Dress Day
This is a great idea to apply unless employees have to maintain a certain image with the customers. The dress code is essential but it is not as important as the results. Don’t underestimate the power of this day, for it can be fun and it is one of the easiest techniques that help you motivate your employees.
3 Consider Motivators Not Related to Work
Another great motivational tool which has nothing to do with money is to focus on motivators that are not directly related to work. Think about possible prizes and opportunities that exist outside of the boundaries of your job. Offering tickets to a movie, bowling or even gift cards to a shopping mall can truly go a long way in motivating your employees towards a higher level of success. (And yes, it costs money to purchase these incentives, but the effect of a fun reward is different than just getting money.)
It is important to focus on tools that don’t relate directly to work and don’t involve money. You can focus on the gifts that can be used outside work. Offering concerts tickets, dinner vouchers, or shopping gift cards can help a lot in motivating the employees and help them grow and succeed. (Such gifts cost money but the impact of this on the employee is more rewarding than getting money)
There are numerous applicable ways that help you motivate your employees. Money is one medium but you have also to use other resources that motivate your employees more.
