As a leader, you are required to motivate your team and push them to come up with new effective ideas. It is hard to do that when your team is not creative at all. Do not give up on that. There are many ways you can adopt to help them reach the minimum levels of creativity. But before doing that, you should have an idea about the relation between the belief and the creative potential.
People who are highly creative share a common “talent” or skill; they believe in their creativity. It all begins with the belief, then follows the approaches, methods, efforts and wills. All these factors lead to a constantly improving creativity.
Being the leader, you must learn to believe that your team has the ability to be creative with no expectations to see any of it at the first beginning. Just have this faith that it is there, they have it and they will succeed in using it. When you look at your own creativity, you should realize that you reached these levels with the help of your previous leaders who believe you could make it. And that is the exact reason why you have become a leader now. Could you have made it without their faith in you? Of course not…
However, your faith in your team might not succeed in making them believe in themselves and their creativity, but after all, it is how it should be done.
After showing them your hope and your trust in them, you must start working on ideas and approaches, without losing hope. Search for creativity among your staff and for signs that reflect creative potentials. If you fail to find them, get back to believing that they exist. Let your trust and hope be reflected to your team. Say you believe in them and let them know that they are capable of coming up with new ideas, new solutions… When you do that, you succeed in triggering the creative potentials in the best way possible.
