Since the beginning of time, men and women have been speaking differently, in different languages. By languages here we don’t mean words, we mean styles. This is why communications between both genders lead to misinterpretations and conflicts.
When communicating with another gender, you should take into consideration the tendency of both genders, that doesn’t show during communication habits.
Check below some examples that explain what is meant by the misunderstanding between men and women:
When a woman is telling a story, she may not be just wasting time. In fact, she may be making efforts to deliver a particular point, or maybe thinking out loud.
On the other hand, if a man is silent, he may not be careless about what is being said. He may be just gathering the ideas before speaking them aloud.
When a man decides to do something without consulting the other gender, he may not be just avoiding your opinion. However, he may be of the type who doesn’t like to collaborate just as a woman tends to do.
If a man bends over when you are saying something, it doesn’t mean he is not listening or trying to take nap. He may be simply listening carefully.
When a woman nods while a man is telling her something, it doesn’t always mean that she agrees on what’s being said. She may just be doing this to say that she is really listening.
When a woman gives a piece of advice, she doesn’t think that her man is helpless and out of capabilities to handle a certain issue. She may be thinking that a man will not ask for advice because he will think that he is showing his weakness at some place.
Both, men and women, have advantages and disadvantages in their styles of communication. For example, men think more about a certain issue and don’t speak out until they find the right solution, while women directly come to the point in order to reinforce their position.
Communicating effectively requires a person to know his/her own tendencies. In this way, the communication will be based on people who understand themselves first and others in the second place, especially when speaking about a communication between opposite genders. Try to read others’ actions by interpreting the tendencies of the gender, and avoiding to misinterpret their intentions. And most importantly, when you get confused, ask directly for an explanation to avoid misunderstandings.
