After the several applications that hit the online stores of smartphones, WhatsApp is on the same page now. Once you update you Whatsapp on Android or iOS, you can enjoy the free call feature that allows you to call anyone, anywhere and at any time… all for free.
All what is required is an internet connection and you can receive and make calls to all your phone contacts. However, if the person you are trying to call have not installed the updated version of WhatsApp, the call will fail.
For Android users, the device must be of version 2.12.5 or later. This feature is now also available for iOS users who can enjoy the free calls as well. As for other smartphones with other operating systems, the free call feature is not yet available, but will be released very soon.
This feature is not complicated at all. All you have to do is open your WhatsApp application and you can see a “Calls” tab, right next to the “Chats” and “Contacts” tabs. Within “Calls”, a list of calls will appear with the time and date. If you want to place a call, go to the person’s chat window and you will see a telephone icon on the upper right corner. Touch the icon and the call is on.
On the other hand, receiving a call pops out an incoming call screen with the caller’s id. You can choose either to end the call (red button) or accepting the call (green button). Additionally, you will see on this screen a message button which you can touch to reject the call and reply by text.
Many people considered that WhatsApp is only a texting application, and that the new feature won’t be successful. Others believe that it is such a great feature, for you can use only one application to make free texts and calls.
